Pontiac Firebird Formula

A popular return to the Firebird lineup in 1987, the Formula in 1988 can take advantage of several optional features to enhance its "street machine" image.

Standard on the Formula is the healthy new 5.0L TBI V-8. Additional performance can be derived from a 5.0L TPI V-8 engine with an improved air induction system, delivering 190 hp with an automatic transmission, 215 hp with a manual. The final step up is the available 5.7L TPI V-8 producing 225 horsepower. All V-8 engines receive a serpentine accessory belt drive design in 1988.

On the outside, Formula receives new 16" cast aluminum deep-dish wheels mounted with P245/50VR16 blackwall tires. The standard WS6 performance suspension package completes the Formula's handling picture.

Two new metallic two-tone treatments are highlighted: silver blue and medium orange. Specific Formula graphics on the doors are standard.

Inside, the 85 MPH speedometer is replaced by a 120 MPH speedometer with tach and gages. Standard bucket seats are upgraded with a new cloth treatment and incorporate separate headrest for comfort and convenience.
